I also have the same problem. It went away for a few weeks and then I twisted my torso awkward or something 2 days ago and now the pain is worse than ever. I went to an immediate care facility because it was unbearable pain. All they did was tell me it was localized pain and that they didn't know what was wrong. It hurts when I breathe really deep or move or lift heavy things. Sad

Broken rib, Bruised or Torn Muscle?
I could have written that initial letter for the symptoms. On 18 Sept 09, I was holding my newborn son on the deck when I lost my balance. My concern was for him so I held him tight and was unable to brace myself when I fell. I slammed into a heavy wooden table making contact with my back, right below my left shoulder blade. That night in bed, I lay on my stomach and felt (and heard) this "pop" right behind my left breast and since then I have been in terrific pain. I wonder if it's a broken or fractured rib, just bruised or a torn muscle. It seems like I have damaged my lung as well because I begun coughing up mucus. It hurts to breathe, cough, laugh, roll-over, pick up anything, etc...I'm too stubborn to see a doctor and I've heard that doctors can't do anything about a broken rib anyway except give you something for the pain. I hope it heals soon.

I am not 100% sure but it sounds like the three of you have described pleurisy. Pleurisy can be caused by many things- illness, infection, injury- and can cause fluid buildup in the lining of the pleura which are over the rib cage area. It is also possible to have dry pleurisy without the fluid. The pain can be completely around the rib cage or can be localized to one spot. The main characteristics of this problem are pain to the touch and/ or pain when inhaling. As this problem can worsen if left untreated, I think you should both see a/ another doctor.
