Hello! I have a question for someone, I had the gastic bypass in the mid-80s, I'm having major problems now days and was curious as to what the risk(s) would be to have it reversed.

Hi, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth forum!

Actually gastric bypass surgery causes major changes in the GI tract and reversible of gastric bypass is almost impossible, very difficult to perform and more risky compared to original procedure, technically. The risk involved is perforation, adhesions and other risks as must have been explained for bypass.

The decision to go for reversal must be carefully thought out, planned and executed by very experienced surgeons as though most can do the bypass, few can do the reversal. Hope this helps. Take care!
