I've recently been suffering from a cold
that is now on the mend, although it has
left me with a cough. Since yesterday
afternoon I have been experiencing pain in
the right side of my chest, just under my
breast. At first I thought it was a muscle
strain due to coughing, but I've since had
a bath and put a hot water bottle on it to
relax the muscle, which has had no effect.
The pain is no better this morning, worse
if anything, and I am experiencing a
constant dull ache in that part of my
chest, plus a sharp, stabbing pain when I
cough, clear my throat or stretch out.
What is it? Thanks.

You may want to request a clinical
examination (auscultation) and X-ray image
in order to exclude a respiratory
infection. You may have an upper
respiratory infection that went down into
the lower respiratory system.
