Repair Episiotomy Surgery!
Posted: 07-30-08 16:12pm

Has anyone ripped their stitches after episiotomy? I had my son July 15th 08 and some how I ripped my stitches. I went to the doctor and he took a look and he decided to see if it would heal up on it's own... Because if he did anything he would have to scrape it and sew it up is what he said. So he told me to soak and keep it clean and maybe it wouldn't get infected. Well he didn't even give me an antibiotic to take to help it not get infected. So a few days later I looked at it and of course it was infected. Well I called the doctor and talked to a nurse. She told me to wait until the next day and come up there and see him. I asked her was it really safe for me to wait longer?? I waited though and whenever I went up there he told me I had to have surgery. Repair episiotomy surgery... I was okay with this because they were gonna put me to sleep. Well I went on over to the hospital the same day and they put me to sleep.. Well whenever I woke up I was in so much pain that I couldn't even function... They started giving me morphine, fentnyl, and said they gave me 2 percosets by mouth. Well they gave me so much that I stopped breathing.. I was still in pain none of these meds helped any.. People say that this is very uncommon and I was just wondering if someone has been through the same surgery.. I was also wondering if he just didn't sew me up really good in the first place... Because whenever I went home from the hospital from having my son, I didn't do anything.. All I did was take care of him and he only weighed 5pounds 12ounces.... Also people told me that he should have numbed my vagina whenever he did the surgery because that way whenever I came too it wouldn't have been so bad all at one time... Just let me know if you had something similar to this or maybe even the same problem.. Because I can't find anyone who had this... Thanks for your time!!

I'm sorry, no. I tore with my daughter and had to be stitched, and my tear healed kind of weird... but they didn't break. I didn't get an infection. They told me I might need a corrective surgery since my tear healed funny, but I opted not to. My experience isn't comparable to yours at all. I'm sorry it happened to you, and I hope you're able to find answers.

wow sorry that happened to you. I think the doctor should never have cut you in the 1st place. What position did you give birth in? With the baby only 5 pounds they could have let you try another position or maybe allow you to not push so fast and hard.

Well thats besides the point. They really should have done more to control your pain. Theres no reason why you should have felt it so soon after waking up. Sorry if I sound a little upset. Doctors make me that way...lol

Im pregnant with my 1st so I wont know anything about tears until a couple more weeks. But you can get infections any time after birth, its not likely but it can still happen. It could have been their fault or it could have just happened. I suggest soaking in a sitz bath or sea salt, maybe even baking soda. This will keep your new stitches clean and it can sooth the pain.

I was just sitting up with my knees up.. Regular position I guess.. The nurses at the hospital suggested I be careful if I soak because bacteria can collect in tubs whether they are cleaned everyday or not.. So far so good though with the new stitches.. Been taking really good care of them and haven't done anything except mess with the baby.. But they told me I could take care of him but couldn't do anything else.. No lifting over 5 pounds other than him of course... So hopefully these issues are gone... I know infection is possible but I just don't understand why he wouldn't give me antibiotics cause that is what they are for, To prevent infection.. I am on them now so it will not get infected again... Even the nurses wondered why he didn't do it in the first place...

I gave birth to my son in april 2007. My stitches ripped out, and I also had to do the epson salt baths three times a day for a month. The doctor also wanted me to heal naturally. However, in the meantime, I was cauterized every week for a month with silver nitrate to get rid of the scar tissue. It healed okay..and I had no problems pertaining to that for a while. but in March 2008, i started getting severe pain down there, that felt like I had been kicked and sometimes if i moved the wrong way, I could feel the muscle tearing.
So now, I am getting injections of Marcaine and cortizone every few weeks to help numb the nerves down there. The doctor is hoping that with a series of injections I will be okay, casue they're afraid of doing surgery because of the scar tissue damage.
I feel your pain. still going through it.. I hope everything will work out.
