Reoccurring Digestive Problem!! Has Anyone Had This??
Posted: 04-19-06 08:46am

I'm 28, male, 5'10", 180lbs - and i've never had any digestive problems before the past few years. I'm hoping someone that reads this has had the same problem, and has found a remedy.

This problem is on and off, and usually lasts a few weeks to over a month.. Then I have no symptoms for up to 6 months or longer. This has been going on for two years now. I've had a colonoscopy, an endoscopy, and a ct scan with that suspended metal solution drink...All tests showed nothing, according to the gi doctor. So, I assume it has to be a functional problem she's not able to see or just not thorough enough to diagnose. Well, when the doctors can't even help me, it's time to use the power of the people.. ;)

ok, here are the details:

*sometimes* after I eat steak, a chicken breast, or if I just eat more than I should of anything at one sitting, I can immediately tell something's wrong. I get bloated, and I have the instinctive feeling like something's not right with my gut. At least 4+ hours after that meal, i'll go to bed extremely bloated, feeling like i'm pregnant (everything should have digested by now!), and i'll wake up feeling the same. That morning I won't have a bowel movement, whereas I usually do every single morning like clockwork, and i'll continue to have irregularity/constipation and bloating/gas for 2-6 weeks.

I say "sometimes" because I know it's not the food itself - I eat mostly the same things regularly (chicken, eggs, some fast food), and for months and months I could be totally fine eating these things. If it were the food, i'd be like this constantly. Maybe it's because I ate too much at a certain sitting, or didn't chew enough? I don't do it deliberately of course, and I never "stuff my face". I'm just trying to figure out why this lasts so long!!! You'd think it'd be a one or two day thing, and then right itself.

Every 'bout' I go through with this, I experience the same exact sensations/symptoms. I have a very odd feeling right under the left side of my rib cage (i assume it's my stomach). It just feels "sore" - every time it almost feels like I strained an ab muscle on the left side, when nothing i've done lately could have strained it.
Plus I feel full, and very gassy - you can clearly hear the frequent roars and rumbles. It's so pronounced that I can even feel the gas moving around my stomach in every direction. So in a nutshell, it's soreness, extreme bloating (from a flat stomach to beer belly!), a lot of gas, and constipation/irregularity.

Also, occassionaly during this time my stomach will actually twitch (contract very fast)... I don't know why this happens, but maybe it's a symptom of a problem that I don't know of. I've heard the term spastic colon, but why would it do this? Something's obviously wrong.

Well, this all eventually goes away on its own, sometimes taking over a month. This is about the 4th time in 2 years that this whole cycle has happened, and I can tell you, it's 4 times too many!

Has anyone had this problem??? If so, please tell me if you've found a way to remedy this!

Thank you!! :)
