Ok so about a year ago i got extremely sick with a UTI and i went to the hospital to get some help. I was in acute pain from my right side of my back all the way across. I couldnt take a deep breath in only little tiny ones. When i Urinated i had like white clumps of white stuff coming out and blood. Turns out the hospital gave me wrong med's (apparently) and did no tests to make sure my kidneys were okay but only a blood test. Anyways it went away after a bit and the afternoon when the Dr called up to say he gave wrong med's i came down again. It was worse. I was on the floor of the hospital in so much pain and distress i was rolling around and no one would help me, i was urinating blood. After 6 hours of this i finally got seen by a doctor only to be let out with common UTI antibiotics. I went back to my notmal GP and said what happened and she sent me for an ultra sound which came back as a bilateral renal duplex collecting system. One kidney was enlarged and had small scarring. So they sent me for an xray to check it out more. No only had a renal duplex not a bilateral. Was this a kidney infection or was it something more? Since i have had about 8 UTI's and treated quickly. Infact i came off my horse and fractured my skull and they picked up a UTI before i could even feel it.

When common bacteria that cause UTI's travel from the urethra up to the kidneys, a kidney infection will develop (kidney infection is far more serious infection than UTI and its symptoms may get experienced within hours).
Severe pain that starts at the lower back spreading in front of the abdomen and to the groin, fever, nausea, vomiting, shivering, diarrhea are all symptoms of kidney infection.
Cloudy, smelly and bloody urine are additional symptom.
You may experience the UTI's symptoms, too, because of corresponding infections of bladder and urethra.
Having renal duplex collecting system means that the collecting system of urine coming out of a kidney is doubled.
Person with this structural variation, is more prone to obstructions (kidney stones) in urinary tract, urine reflux and infections.
Upper urinary tract infections or kidney infections and enlarged kidney due to dilated parts of kidney collecting system (hydronephrosis) are more common in people with doubled kidney collecting system.
