Q: Removed sternum

I had open heart surgery 06/15/2005
to repair a regurgitating aortic bicuspid valve with a mechanical valve The surgery went fine. After the surgery my wires to hold my chest together keep pulling out. After them redoing them 2 times, they used a plate with screws and that also did not work. They had repaired an aneurysm and did one cbg. Then ending up removing my sternum, because of infection and grafing muscles from my chest to hold me together. I am corresponding in this forum to see of anyone else had a simulular experience. Of course now I am on blood thinners ect...

I can relate
My surgery was here in Canada May 2007 wires adjusted in June....sternum removed in August

I had CABG x4 and mitral valve ring ...I am diabetic and now feel like I have a 6 inch square breast plate as the flap hardens

My ribs often push my collar bone into my windpipe when I sleep. I seldom feel comfortable BUT the other option was not so rosey innocent
