First let me say that this is my first post. I am not the headache sufferer, my wife was. She suffered from headaches for 26 yrs before finding help. We live in southwest Arkansas and for years we went to a clinic in Houston, Tx. The doctor is well known in this field. He tried everything he could think of to stop her cycle of headaches. We recently discovered another clinic in Houston. The second appointment, she suggested a surgery on her neck. It seems there is a muscle that goes out to each shoulder and a nerve that runs through that muscle. The object of the surgery is to open up that hole so the muscle does not rub the nerve. The surgery was outpatient and the surgeon was a plastic surgeon. He discovered that every time she moved her arm the muscle was rubbing the nerve. He cleaned all the scar tissue off and made room for the nerve.
Prior to the surgery our local doctor had issued a standing order at the local hospital for Nubain injections. This being a narcotic we were limited to one shot every 3 days. We were usually there ever 3-4 days and she was totally disabled. The surgery was on January 30, 2008. We were told that the headaches might move from the back of her head to the front, which they did. This continued sporadically for the next six months. During that time we visited the hospital about six times. She has not had a shot since June 23 meaning she has not had a bad headache for over 6 months now. The surgery was successful. She had back surgery just before Christmas and is recovering well. She is sixty years old now and is slowly getting her life back. It is so good not having everything we do dictated by her headaches. I do not know why God allowed her to suffer for so long, but I thank him for the relief from the horrible pain. The one thing I do know is that the trial has made our love for each other much stronger than ever before.

I'm happy your wife has found a relief for her headaches.
According to the headache description, she was suffering a type of headache, known as occipital neuralgia.
The pain is caused by irritation or injury to the occipital nerves, which can be the result of trauma to the back of the head, pinching of the nerves by overly tight neck muscles, compression of the nerve as it leaves the spine due to osteoarthritis, or tumors or other types of lesions in the neck.

Best wishes for you and your family!
