I have been suffering from gout attacks for the last 5 years. I have been on allopurinol for the past 2 years. Usually my attacks last a few days. I am currently on day 25 of my current gout attack. I constantly drink water and have not had red meat, seafood, or alcohol since the attack started. I've tried elevating the foot, cold compresses, warm compresses, cherry juice. The pain began in my left ankle and then moved to the big toe a few days later and then returned to the ankle. Two days ago I was almost back to normal but last night the severe pain returned to my ankle. I am currently unemployed and no longer have medical benefits so I was wondering if there was anything else I can try before dishing out money for urgent care.
