I am getting a bit upset at how blood pressure works.
I am currently at 174lbs, 5'4" tall, female, 34yrs old.
I was 232lbs and have lost 58lbs to date by working out twice a day or aerobics, and muscle toning, following a low carb diet, extremely low sodium intake and drinking btwn 2-3 libtres of water a day.
When I check my bp, it can range from 117/60 and up. Today it was 117/80 this morning but at lunch it was 148/96. I get so frustrated as I am doing everything right yet my readings are still high. Also, I know some people who are bigger than me and have no bp issues at all-very normal low readings.
What gives? I try so hard yet my readings aren't always low. Also, I find they are high (145/95) after I take 5mg Norvasc in the evenings. I was on a slew of meds in the past but my dr has reduced them. When will I start to see a change?

I am thoroughly impressed! You have lost 1/4 of your overall weight and also made significant lifestyle and dietary changes- way to go! They say that with every ten pounds you loose, you cut your hypertension risk in half.

Do you eat/drink anything with caffeine or alcohol, use ibuprofen, decongestants or smoke? All of these affect your blood pressure and could skew your readings. Same thing with exercise. Be sure consider such activities when interpreting your bp reading.

It will probably take some time for your blood pressure to decline because of the wight loss, and it might not until your BMI is more in the normal range. Your body has to heal from the added stress of being obese, but you are young enough it should!

The bottom line it that you are on the right track. Stay dedicated to the lifestyle changes you have made and the results will come. If you have concerns about the bp meds you are taking, talk to your Dr. about it.
