Q: Redness around mouth !

I am a fifteen year old female, and i have suffered from chapped lips all my life. But about a week or two ago, i started to notice my lips were cracking and dry, and around my mouth was this red ring. There are NO bumps or anything, it's just red. I tried putting a facial moistrizing lotion around it, and it just burns. Sometimes it will itch. The only thing i use that relieves the itching or burning is my medicated chapstick.

When it first appeared, i had braces on, and my mom thought maybe the braces were what was causing it. But i just got my braces removed about two days ago, and it's still there. It's usually more irritated/red during the daylight hours... like from 8am to 3pm. But when i get home, it seems to look and feel better.

It is extremely embarassing to be walking around the halls of your school with a red moustache, and i would really appreciate it if anyone had suggestions about what i could use to make it disappear.
Please help me.

i just recently went to a doctor, and she told me to take claritin or benedryl everyday and that it will go away after time.

i have also been moistrizing it with a lotion called cetaphil. it had helped a lot with the dryness/ itching, and over the weekend the red ring was just about gone. but after coming back to school this week, it's back, except for on the top of the mouth. the ring is only on the corners and under my lips now.

i'm starting to get convinced that it's from the cold wind outside, considering the weather is changing around this time of october, but i'm not sure, because this has never happened before. until this year.

i think that's what my problem might be.

licking her lips is definitely causing the problem.

i finally found out how to get the redness around my mouth to go away. i used this stuff called Pure Aloe from Panama Jack...the same stuff used for sumburn. It's filled with Vitamin E and Cocoa Butter. I spread a thick layer on the redness after i got out of the shower & before i went to bed, and it was gone in a few days.

It still comes back, but whenever it does I just simply put the aloe on it, and it goes away within two days.

I think maybe you should let your daughter try that...I'm very certain it will work.
