I was diagnosed with melanoma 2 years ago when I was only 21. I am very fair skinned with red hair and freckles. I also grew up in the Caribbean and have been sun burt severly (to the point of blistering) numerous times. I have a couple of questions about melanoma that I just cant seem to articulate to my doctor. However this first question is the real reason I jumped online to find some info... I just found a small (about the size of a piece of confetti) red scab on the back of my thigh, it looks as though I cut myself however at no point have I experienced any pain or seen any blood to indicate that I did cut myself somehow. It just appeared somehow. Problem is I'm not sure if I ever had a mole there, its kind of a hard spot to see so I am just not sure. Do I need to be concerned about this or just wait it out and see if it heels and goes away on its own?

As for my other questions, I guess they are quite basic but after reading a ton of info online about melanoma I am just more confused than anything... I have had numerous biopsys, some punch, some scrape. After a few of those biopsys I had to go back into my doctor so they could cut it again doing a larger margin. My results came back as severly atypical and moderately atypical in all cases its one or the other. Bt what does that even mean? Why do they have to cut it again? Once they remove everything does that mean I dont have melanoma anymore? I had one surgery on my abdomen which left me with a 4 inch scar and the results came back as malignant melanoma, since they did the surgery does that mean I dont have it anymore? This was my first surgery before all the other biopsys which makes me think that there is some reason more spots keep popping up.

Any comments and help would be great. I guess I really just dont understand what I've got and everything I read online is confusing and scarey. Thank you guys so much!

My family has lived with Melonoma...Our older son has had many invasions of his body as you have had...His back, stomach and leg have paid the price for the Sun...Our younger son is watched very carefully...He has a yearly check up with a Dermatologist...They have taken two different suspect areas off...One behind his thigh and one in back of his knee...My advice would be: Have it checked out....This is a scary disease...You are the guardian of your body...Good luck...

I am adding to this post...Once they remove everything, they do not necessarily remove everything...This may not make sense, but it is a funny disease...If by some chance,(via the blood stream) it may have snuck somewhere else, it can again show it's face...Our older son has had it for 25 years...He is checked every 6 months...They take a picture of his body and compare it each time....Just stay on top of it...
