I woke up yesterday morning with a red area just above the ankle on my shin.I did not bang it or anything and there is no swelling or cut or bumps..It is smooth but painful to the touch and there is pain when I walk or move my ankle. The area is about 3 inches round and is also warm.

Hello,

Welcome to ehealthforum and thanks for writing

Red rash near the ankle area without any trauma and abrasion can be due to dermatitis, eczema due to prolonged standing or sitting, allergy due to any insect bite etc.It requires a direct physical examination of the concerned rash to rule out the exact cause.Since it is warm possibility of inflammation can be suspected.

Apply Aloe vera gel on it three times a day and observe for changes. You can also consider taking antihistamines which would help in controlling inflammation.

If the rash does not subside on its own after few days or there is development of other symptoms as pain, swelling, fever, itching then consider visiting a Physician for evaluation so that required treatment can be started.

Take care!
