Hi, I am 19 years old and I have been having recurring yeast infections since the summer of 2008. Prior to this, i had only ever seen one other yeast infection in my life and it taken care of with diflucan and it happened way before this nightmare.

Backstory:
During the summer of 2008 i was going through alot of family stress, emotional stress, and having to move from new jersey to california for my senior year of high school. I was crying everyday, a complete mess, and on top of that i didn't want to leave my boyfriend. This also added more stress. I came down with strep throat and a uti at the same time, somehow, and my mother wouldn't take me to the doctor to get meds for either. The strep throat progressed to painful degress, uti included, and when i was finally able to get on the antibiotics, i had to take a longer dosage for the strep as well as take antibiotics for the uti. I was not told anything about a yeast infection being a concern, so no preventative matters were taken, and as i got deeper into the antibiotics I started to feel better on both ends.
Then the dramatic event took place and I moved to California about maybe a week and a half after the meds. Meanwhile, all was fine everywhere except for my emotional state. About a couple of days into staying with my aunts, we are out of soap and they advised me to use the liquid dish soap to shower with, which may have been antibac, not sure but i'm leaning that way on this issue. I stupidly agree, thinking i've had to do this in the past before and nothing bad ever happened, used it and never gave it a second thought. Until the itching and burning started and before you know it : I have a yeast infection, full blown.
Here is where various trips are taken to the hospital and where the $200 of the $300 that my boyfriend gave me to survive was spent within a 1-2 month period with trips back and forth and medication. I became paranoid about my vagina, especially with my boyfriend coming to visit in early August and these yeast infections started in late June. By the time he came to visit, not without wasting tons of money and time, i was able to knock it out for the one week that he stayed with me. We had alot of sex during that week and i felt perfectly fine. He leaves and maybe a couple of days to a week later, i'm back with a yeast infection.
Here is where I stay today. I have had recurring yeast infection since the summer of 2008 and nothing seems to help. I practically lived off yogurt and ate it religiously, still never felt normal and no real difference could be seen. Everytime i go to the gyno, they confirm it is yeast and send me with a script for diflucan and send me packing. Meanwhile not realizing that i'm making 2-3 trips to the gyno per month. NO ONE has bothered to look into my infection further.
I've tried almost EVERY remedy, from garlic suppository to douching with boric acid. NOTHING is permanent, nothing puts my body back into gear.

Right now i'm trying to use coconut oil. I've been taking 3 caplets 3x daily for about a week now. I had a raging yeast infection last week and for the first 2-3 days, the coconut oil was working, almost instantly. I thought i was cured by the 3rd day with clear, almost normalish discharge, had sex, then got another yeast infection the next morning. Ate 4 coconut oil caps, seems to have made it worse. I've continued to take it, thinking that maybe it was some kind of "die-off", but I really just don't know what to do anymore.

Someone, please help me, offer some insight, some something. I'm at college right now and the only med services available to me are the nurses at my school. They know nothing other than "here's a diflucan. Bye Bye". Obviously this isn't a solution. I need something to eradicate this.

I also don't eat any sugar, i limit my carbs, i've been tested twice negative for diabetes (one time recently), i have no stds....absolutely no clue about whats going on.

Sorry this is so long, but this is the story that docs always rush out of the room before they get to hear it.

Someone....Help. Plz. This is killing my sex life. we have sex maybe 1-3x a month, the rest, all yeast infection or period. Even with the diflucan.

Dairy and Yeast Infections
I have had the same problem...I have had recurring yeast infections for 18 months. I have tried EVERYTHING! Every medicine, every natural remedy, boric acid, yogurt suppositories, gentian violet...you name it and I've tried it. I became fed up with doctor after doctor and being dismissed even though this problem was really affecting my life. I understand what you are going through.

I started going to a Traditional Chinese medicine clinic and they asked me all sorts of questions that my doctors never did (because they were too busy ignoring me or just trying to fix my symptoms and not the root of the problem). Anyway, they really took a look at my diet, which I thought was very healthy. I drink milk at breakfast and dinner every night, and I eat alot of cheese and other dairy products. My problems went away after I cut out the dairy products. Essentially, I am lactose intolerant. When a person is lactose intolerant and they eat dairy, the sugar from the milk (lactose) can't get broken down and ferments in your stomach and stays in your bloodstream....perfect environment for yeast.

I suggest that you get off all the medication you have been on. Cut out ALL dairy from your diet....really read your labels. After I stopped eating dairy I waited four days and ate some dairy just to see how I did...and I had classic lactose intolerance symptoms. Lactose is in everything.....so read your labels. There are many breads that I can't eat because they have whey, so make sure you aren't eating any milk derivitive.

I haven't had a problem since I stopped dairy. And I only stopped it several weeks ago, and I already see such a difference...not one infection since.

I'm also still going to the Chinese clinic and they gave me an excellent natural douche called Yin Care (you can get it on amazon) and that has really helped, and they have my on herbs, and I have been doing acupuncture as well.

There is some factor that is causing your body to be out of whack. Medicine only treats the symptoms. You need to look at the body as a whole, and that is where the Chinese Medicine is really effective.

I hope this helps...I understand where you have been and it will end. Try what I did and see if it works for you. Also, if you are on hormonal birth control you might want to stop that as well.

Good luck!

Lactose intolerance runs in my family but i've never been as affected by it as they have. Usually, and excuse me haha, i just get really gassy after eating dairy, but i guess that's a sign enough. My mother didn't fully develope lactose intolerance until she was around 20 years and i'm 19 right now. That could mean that it's right around the corner for me.

Right now i'm just willing to try anything. I will give up my precious cheese to live a normal life and be able to have sex! OMG! and just feel like a woman and a complete person. This causes soooo much anxiety, i can't get a moments rest.

Thanks for your support.

Yeast infection might be BV
Hey Girl, I've been trying to reply to your posts all over (yahoo answers and other forums).

I am wondering if maybe you have bacterial vaginosis (BV) instead of a yeast infection.. I suggest you research that. I thought I had a yeast infection for a year with NO relief. Don't douche with anything! You need to go to a doctor and have some type of birth control pill that keeps you from getting your period. Maybe have it every 3-4 months instead. That will give your vagina time to return to the normal pH of 3.5-4.5 that it needs to be at in order for good bacteria to regain control.

Have a BV test done at planned parenthood if you don't have insurance. It is NOT sexually transmitted regardless of what Wiki says. It's an overgrowth of (bad) bacteria. It will come on in association with your period because the vagina becomes more neutral at that time. Blood is more of a base and so is semen. So if you have that in there (blood or semen) it will change the pH of your vagina and BAM..you got BV again! So use condoms ALWAYS, change pads very frequently, and try some type of birth control that will make periods less frequent.

Ask doctor during visit to swab your vagina with iodine really well. That will kill all yeast and bacteria. Then take metro gel. Then take acidophilus orally and take a multi vitamin and FOLIC ACID (about 800-1200 mcg a day broken into three doses of 400 mcg a day).

Good luck!!

Apparently around 80% of adults will develop a lactose intolerance...humans weren't meant to consume cow's milk. I hope this helps you...I have been off dairy for well over a month now and I haven't had one infection. I loved cheese too...but it's totally worth it to be able to get rid of this problem for good. Keep me posted and check back in soon and let me know if it is working for you. I started noticing a difference within the first three days.

Ok well today is going to be day one for me. I started the day with 2 coconut oil capsules on an empty stomach to jump start that candida fighting action.

It's starting to occur to me that living absolutely dairy free, including all the additives in breads and processed foods will be a little challenging. But anything is better than what i'm going through right now. Hey, maybe i'll lose some weight.

Here goes nothin. Very Happy

one more thing, i bought some pro-biotics recently that say on the label that they may contain trace amounts of dairy or soy. Should i be concerned and not continue to take them now in conjunction with my diet? Or will the minimal amounts really mean nothing if i am following through with the diet?

Thanks

I'm no doctor, but I don't think that trace amounts of dairy will bother you too much. I don't know where you live, but if you have a store like a Sprouts or Whole Foods, usually their bread is made without dairy. What really bothered me was giving up ice cream, but there is some really good coconut ice cream called Coconut Bliss....it is a great alternative to ice cream. Tastes great, same consistency of ice cream...and I know Whole Foods sells it. Good luck!!!!

I'm pretty skeptical about these e-books. they look really suspicious...

i just got off my period...and i've been trying the no dairy and i think i'm noticing a slight improvement in overall health. The only bummer is that the diet has halved the available things that i can eat now... Sad other than that i'm doing well and i hope that things will stay that way.

Last thursday i used up the rest of my school insurance money to go and see a gyno since i no longer have health insurance. No choice. He told me everything that i already know and told me not to "worry about it soo much".

Look you jerk, when your cooche has been on the fritz for over 2 years...its a little difficult to "not worry about it so much". I seriously do not understand why guys become gynos..they can't relate at all.

I walked out with more diflucan...to my utter surprise...and some stuff called mycolog. He also told me i could be experiencing irritation due to constant wetness and deterioration of the skin. He told me to put lotion down there, any kind i desired...hell if i listen to this man i'll be in even more trouble than i am now.

There goes the rest of my money for nothing...damn.

I don't know. I bought the e-book and it basically just told me everything that i've been reading online with a more scientific perspective.

I've still been suffering from a yeast infection at the onset and end of my period. My period ended about 1 1/2-2 weeks ago and i'm still suffering. Right now i'm trying to use tea tree oil, out of desperation. This crap burns! But i'll do anything to get rid of this and live like a normal person

ok, well it seems that the tea tree may have had the opposite reaction...and i think it caused a fishy smell which i'm going to relate to bacteria.

I put some garlic up there last night...but i honestly don't know what to anymore

I've tried: Yogurt ( oral and vaginal), coconut oil (seems to give me a yi), acidophilus ( does nothing), grapefruit seed extract (does nothing), cranberry juice (nothing), avc or h202 tampons (works momentarily and then reverts bac = nothing)..

I'm at my wits end

someone...please help me..

I have the same problem. I've been having recurrent/chronic yeast infections for maybe 4 years. I started getting them maybe a year after I started taking birth control, which I'm pretty sure is the main culprit. But unless my current boyfriend wants to get a vasectomy, I'm basically stuck on them for my own sanity.

I kept seeing my OBGYN a couple times a year and would tell her about yeast infections and she'd give me the Diflucan. The infection would lighten up while I took it but came right back after I was done. Last time I saw her I told her about that and she just gave me two doses, one to take after the other. Same thing happened. She also gave me a list of foods to avoid, which is just about everything, so I kinda picked and chose some and cut out my sugar and I haven't seen much difference. Though cutting down sugar seems to help the amount of yeast it get, but it's still there.

So lately I've been playing with herbal supplements. I remember trying coconut oil capsules before without much luck. I might consider trying them again. Right now I'm taking about 3-4 garlic softgels a day, and grapefruit seed extract in my orange juice in the morning. I also use a garlic softgel as a suppository at night. I've tried using an actual garlic clove but it seems to work the same but it just reeks.

I'm considering trying boric acid, getting a cotton tampon and soaking it in coconut oil, or using grapefruit seed extract to douche. Though douching kinda scares me because my doctor and most everyone else seems so against it. But I'm just willing to try anything.

I'm also lactose intolerant. I'm more partial than anything. I can have cheese and stuff but I can't drink milk and yogurt bothers me. But I've only been this way for a couple years and I know that before when I wasn't lactose intolerant I would eat a lot of yogurt when these first started and it helped a lot. I tried maybe a year ago putting yogurt directly in my vagina (via finger) and it helped tremendously, except it upset my stomach for a few days after so I refuse to touch yogurt again. But I'd highly consider trying it if you can handle yogurt.

I think not being able to handle yogurt makes dealing with the yeast infections much harder because I think that is the best solution. I remember you mentioned that you eat a ton of it, or used to it. But maybe it makes a bigger difference using it directly.

I'm honestly getting really frustrated because I feel like I'm not getting anywhere on solving my problem. I'm thinking about seeing my OBGYN again and telling her all about this and asking her if she knows anything about alternative methods, because the standard ones just aren't working. I especially want to know more about boric acid because I've heard good things.

I have a very serious problem with yeast. I have had a virulent systemic overgrowth of candida
for over fifteen years. My symptoms manifest as constant migraines, headaches, tension,
irritability, anxiety, stress, weight gain/inability to lose weight, menstrual irregularities,
hypoglycemia, severe chronic indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome (especially when
eating any kind of carbs/sugars/cheese/alcohol), chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, chronic bladder
infections, severe hair loss, polycystic ovarian syndrome, rosacea/facial flushing, and a thin
yellow vaginal discharge that is especially prevalent when cheese is eaten for some reason..
I even have thrush so bad that it's causing these awful sores all over my tongue. It looks like
I'm diseased.
I would be interested to know witch e-book you tried, I'm at my wits end and will try anything to get some relief.
A friend of my recommended one witch she says alleviated most of her problems. Worth a try.

I am sorry that all of you are having to go through all of this. I know how bad it sucks. I went through it for years until I figured out all the pieces to the puzzle. I have a testimonial site that lays out everything I did to get back to normal at feelingnormalagain dot com. I also just started a video blog site where I talk about different supplements and health related issues at yourhealthtruth dot com. I obviously feel very strongly about the probiotic, which is why I am actually selling it now! Anyway, my cell number is on the first site, so feel free to call if you have any questions. I enjoy helping people with yeast, digestive and other issues. I do not charge for phone calls Wink

Take care,
Brock

yeast infection cure
There are a lot of quacks out there to be sure and a lot of quack remedies. I suffered from candida after giving birth but it was easily cleared up by medication and I haven't suffered since. It made me wonder about the issue though so out of sheer curiosity I looked around (qute a while ago now) and discovered it was something that is a massive problem for a lot of women. For what it's worth the most successful ebook on the subject that claims a total cure is 'Yeast No More'
Plenty of testimoniials in there that attest to its efficacy, worth a try.

Recurrent yeast infections / thrush / recurrent cystitis
It sounds like you have candida. Go to someone who is both a doctor and a homeopath and they will put you on medicine. This medicine will firstly flush out your bowels and support your liver, and then kill your candida whilst you also take probiotics to make sure you replace bad bacteria with good bacteria. You also need to find out what you are intolerant to so you can avoid those foods. The doctor will use a vegamachine to test you for all the food groups. You sound like you have a sugar intolerance to me? I have a sugar intolerance and eat xylitol instead - it can be hard work avoiding such foods, but only someone who has had enough of yeast infections/cystitis has the willpower to give sugar up.
Also, candida (the bad bacteria) feeds on progesterone, which is abundant in the contraceptive pill - so once you start on the candida program then start talking to your doctor/homepath about the best way forward for you.
