Q: recurrent chest pain

I am a 24 year old female who has had inconsistent chest pain for over a month. The chest pain occurs daily (usually sharp but not unbearable in the center slightly on the left side). The chest pain is usually sharp, but only lasts a few seconds. Sometimes it occurs only a few times a day, others every half hour or so. I have visited the doctor and my blood work, EKG, and chest X-ray all came out normal to much relief. The pain is usually alleviated somewhat and occurs less frequently while taking naproxen. I have never had this kind of pain before. What could be causing it? A pinched nerve? My food habits have not changed and I do not believe it is a digestive problem nor congestion (doctor listened to my heart and lungs as well).

It is good that your heart and lungs are OK. Pinched nerve can cause such sudden sharp pain. You can request MRI of the thoracic spine in order to confirm or exclude pinched nerve. If the spine is OK your problem could be due to anxiety.
