Hi Group,
I recently injured my ankle a month ago and tore the ligaments in my ankle. I have been on crutches and an air cast for a month and have another month to go. I have definitely been drinking (when I get home from work and weekends) and picked up smoking cigarettes again. I would love some encouragement from those out there. I have been systematically offending a lot of friends lately as the booze is a bad combination with the seroquel and makes my verbal editing skills fly out the window. It's absolutely horrible what comes out of my mouth when I've had too much to drink. I'm so sick of apologizing - it's seems it's all I do these days.

Stop drinking totally? No, but socially in moderation - yes. I now understand so much more about how badly a serious injury effect so many other parts of your mind. There are so many psychological and emotional things that come up. I had a great deal of reflection this weekend which I'm grateful for because it's going to motivate me to make serious changes in my life which includes not drinking too much. No more of that!!! It doesn't make me feel good and I don't like how I am when I'm drunk. I used to think it made me a more outgoing, but when in fact it's ok that I'm reserved. That is my nature and that is OK. I don't have to try and be someone I'm not. If someone doesn't like me because I'm on the quiet side, then oh well. It's time to start to show kindness and respect to myself so that I can be a nicer person to others. Smile Thanks for your reply.

That's a great attitude Very Happy

Medication is a great way to stop drinking ... the side-effects is usually too disturbing Wink

Spending two months in a cast is not fun at all...I know how you feel. I was stuck in a closed reduction cast, from my ankle to my hip from dislocating my knee.

All of the best Very Happy

I see. Just know that excessive drinking is also a sign that there are some unresolved emotional issues going on. When I was drinking, I loved being social...but underneath the exterior I had some major anger...which is what it sounds like you're expressing with your words. It might be worthwhile to talk to someone about those hidden things, the feelings. Because recognizing them is the only way to observe them and then, eventually, watch them evolve into something better. I wish you the best of luck in your recovery from your injury and in looking into the depths of what's really happening. Smile
