Assuming that by “medical reason for an abortion” you meant miscarriage, the following can be said:
There are many reasons for a miscarriage, depending on what trimester of the pregnancy we are talking about.
In the first trimester, a hormonal imbalance (lack of progesterone being the most frequent), chromosomal anomalies and polycystic ovary syndrome are the most frequent causes for miscarriage.

In the second trimester, causes originating from the female genital tract take the lead: uterine malformations ( a septated uterus, for example), fibroids, and cervical incompetence.

Certain infections (rubella and Chlamydia) can cause a miscarriage, too.
