Q: Reasons for a delayed menstrual cycle
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 2nd, 2009
Hello,
I have been having some female vaginal problems. My period has not came on since June or July. I itch uncontrollably sometimes and I have a thick mucus like discharge. It is not brown or green, its more of a yellow white color. There has been times where my cycle has went months without coming on. Could this be a hormone or stress related issue?

You would like to know whether the delay of your cycle may be caused due to a hormonal unbalance or stress related issues.

Given the symptoms of a delayed period, it is likely that you may have experienced an anovulatory cycle. An anovulatory cycle may appear due to a hormonal unbalance or stress related issues which are more common. According to your symptoms of uncomfortable itch and thick mucus-like discharge sometimes yellow white colored, it is likely that you may be experiencing a vaginal infection, bacterial infection, or symptoms due to fungus Candida.

You may consider seeing a gynecologist to discover the cause of the delay of your period. You may consider having a complete gynecological exam to rule out infections.
