Wednesday I was volunteering at a local free store that we have in town. And I learned a very good lesson (don't wear flip-flops while going up and down stairs), because I fell down four steps and I put most of weight on my right wrist and the wrist turned (not good). So now I have a painful wrist and I have had the pain in my wrist for awhile because I continuously type on the computer incorrectly. The grip in my right hand will go weak and pain shoots down my arm towards my elbow. I just want to know if I have CTS or something. I tried to ask 2 doctors about it and they just blew me off...help!

You may be having the first signs of CT even without the fall...Get a good wrist brace and baby it while it is healing up...If it pains you during the night, wear it then too...As soon as it feels strong go back to the old you....This sure has helped me...Good luck...and stay well...

Does it hurt on the top or bottom of your arm? If it's the underside, then it indicates CT, top indicates tendinitis or something else. Have you done the "press your palms together with your wrists straight for a full minute" test? If your fingers go numb, then it's CT. Otherwise, you may just have a sprained wrist and maybe tendinitis. Put ice on it for a bit and see if it helps. Heat may also help if it's CT. Anti-inflammatories may help the pain and any swelling you may have.

If it gets bad enough, you may need physical therapy and other pain medication, even corticosteroids.

Don't let doctor's blow you off. Insist that they answer your questions. You are in charge because you are paying them. Remember that. See a specialist if you have to.

Hi gayle,
I fell and placed on weight on my right wrist 3 weeks ago..I have been wearing a brace..The palm at base and below left thumb hurt really bad..I can't turn my hand certain ways..Typing is not so much issue as long as I wear brace..I have had two xrays that show arthritis etc but no fracture..I have a CD of my xrays and after alot of studing them comparing mine to others that are ok and those with fractures I can see as I did prior to study a hairline fracture and a chip in a bone..So will pull this to my Rheumys. attention at next weeks appt..
