Hi there my name is Simon. I would really encourage you to find someone to talk to whether it's a friend: someone who you trust, or whether there is some phoneline you can phone; in the UK we have something called Samaritans, who you can call/email from abroad.
Alternatively, I'd really encourage you to get professional help; find someone you feel comfortable with and feel that you can trust. I do believe there's so much you can do to overcome your anxiety.
I used to experience massive anxiety. For me it was a learned behaviour; my dad is an anxious person and I learned it from him. He is still an anxious person. However I've learned how not to be anxious person. It can be uncomfortable going to speak to someone if youâve not done this before, this is normal for many people.
I am actually a hypnotherapist and I work with lots of people with these issues. I ask people what stops them from getting help and many say that:
They think that maybe nothing will help or
They are scared of trying to sort their issues out and failing
They are ashamed of their feelings
These are all things that can get in the way. Try this: if your friend came to you and was upset, think about what you'd say to them. Iâm guessing you would be kind, supportive and encouraging. You need to treat yourself the same way.
Remember the words of Winston Churchill:
Never, never, never give up.
Seriously! I had a client who hadnât left the house for 18 months because of her anxiety, and after coming to see me to do a training program to help her (which was really a huge challenge for her to leave the house: she was so nervous) she went out for a meal, went to the theatre, travelled on the underground in the rush hour. She recently sent me a picture of her in Australia (she lives in the UK).
So make a decision that you are going to do everything you can to beat this, and make a start.
