Q: rapid HIV test

how soon can I get a conclusive HIV test after having unprotected sex?

As you'd imagine I want to get checked and get the results asap,

anybody?

The simple answer is you have to wait 6 months to get a conclusive result. This test is known as the ELISA test and all it does it detect the antibodies your body produces to combat the virus. However, this time frame is different for everyone! The Elisa test is very accurate and can detect antibodies within 2 weeks to 6 months, I know that sounds ridiculous but I'm sorry that's how it is. Keep in mind there are other tests that you may be able to get done. You can ask your doctor about a PCR test, which detects the virus directly or a P24 antigen test.
