I am 43 and had an aggressive angiomyxoma 2 years ago, took tamoxifen for 1 year but didn't like the side effects. I then had to have my ovaries removed last year due to large haemorrhaging cysts. I have had a bit of osteoarthritis for many years in my back but recently I have had 2 'flares' of terrible knee pain (bilateral) like red hot pokers being put into them, my fingers were very stiff in a morning and i was generally stiff and in pain in many joints, couldn't bend at work (am a nurse), the 'flare' has calmed now but fingers are still stiff but not as bad. Even my feet were painful and walking downstairs was difficult. I had one episode of episcleritis when i had my ovaries out and have had blood shot eye once more since then. My GP took an RA factor test 6 months ago, negative. Since my 2nd flare which lasted 4 weeks, i have had a normal ESR and normal CRP, only the phosphate was raised in my blood results. Could this be Rheumatoid?? My GP wants to refer me to a rheumatologist.
Thanks

Seronegative rheumatoid arthritis could be secondary to an underlying rheumatic condition, so I would agree with your doctor to see the rheumatologist. Rheumatoid factor is only present in ~60 % of patients with RA.

When does the pain occur? If it happens when you work too much, it is probably osteoarthritis. Also, in your fingers was the pain close to the hand or further? Was this bilateral?
