Q: Quitting jobs due to depression
asked by: DoctorQuestion on September 11th, 2009
I always quit work because of my depression situation, This is the second time occuring to me. My last work i was the best topperformer in the bank. I worked 2 years until suddenly a relocation of my work triggered depression and could not deal with it until i resigned. I am currently without job , loss of interest and afraid to seek any job. I tried psychiatrists and medicine but still no change in the way i think. I feel that if i come back to work the same thing will occur (can not sleep, overthinking, fear) and will lead me to resign also. Help me what should i try next? How can i cope with my situation ? How can i continue my life?

Depression can really be something that interferes with your functioning, as you know. You also mentioned fear which may speak to an anxiety disorder underlying and fostering your depressive symptoms. I know you have tried psychiatrists and medicine, however, that does not mean definitively that nothing can help you. It is likely that you have not found the right clinician/therapist or medication to help you with your specific issue. You may want to find a new therapist and psychiatrist, preferably one specializing in cognitive-behavioral treatment which has been shown to have good results. If you don't know how to find an appropriate professional, please contact me and I will walk you through the process.
