Q: Questioning pregnancy tests
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 1st, 2009
I have missed my period by 3 weeks now. I have never missed a period before. I took 3 HPT test, but they all came back neg. I went to my family doctor who did a physical exam and he told me her was 90% sure i was pregnant, but when we got the blood tests back, they also said neg. I have pregnancy symptoms, that aren't getting any better, adn my stomach is getting hard towards my lower adomen. Im extreamly confused at this point. Is there any way that the blood test could have been wrong? At the time of the blood test i was only 1 week late. My mom said her pregnancies never showed up in tests till she was between 2-3 months. Could my body be the same?

You would like to know whether your blood pregnancy test could have been wrong and whether your body may not show a pregnancy in tests as well as your mother’s.

Researches show that in certain women the level of the progesterone doesn’t increase to the measurable levels that are in ranges common for pregnancies. Those levels of progesterone increase gradually and may be a little late, from few weeks to two to three months.

Given the data that you described it is likely that your body may react on pregnancy the same as your mother’s, which means that your body may not show the pregnancy right away, but a bit later. You may consider seeing a gynecologist to have a blood pregnancy test again or to confirm the pregnancy with ultrasound examination.
