Q: Pus-like feeling in leg

I ask this question on behalf of my mum. She is about 60yrs and have been complaining of this strange feeling in her right leg from her hip down to her heel.
According to her, she feels this pus-like sensation and pain. She also experiences occassional swelling on that particular leg now.
She has seen a doctor but was only given pain reliever which is not working. What could be wrong with her?
