Q: purple markings on skin

Years ago, I noticed a strange purple marking on the back of my right arm, just above the elbow. It almost looked like a bruise, but didn't hurt. And it's not a birthmark seeing how it wasn't always there. It does not have a definite shape (basically just a blob). It hasn't faded or changed since I noticed it, but I don't know what it is. Is it anything I should be worried about?
