Q: Purple feet

I have purple feet all the time. They don't turn color in response to temperature. There is not discomfort. The skin appears healthy other than it ranges in color from red (like sunburn) to purple (like a bruise). Applying pressure to the skin causes it to go back to flesh color but as soon as the pressure goes away, the redness/purple return. Elevating the feet does not seem to have an impact. Sometimes the feet are cold to the touch but probably not more so than the average woman's feet.

It started about three years ago and has progressed significantly in the last 6 months. I'm very healthy - ex-smoker of 7 years. I exercise daily - run several days a week. I take no medications other than a daily vitamin. I have no allergies.

I've been to a dermatologist, general practitioner, vascular specialist and rhuematologist - all whom have never seen anything like this and none of whom have a clue what it could be or how or if to treat it.

I'm hoping there is someone else out there who has experienced this or knows someone who has. Thanks.

toes
My toes have red spots and the one toe has a purple tip. This has started since the weather has been cold.

my sister has these same symptoms and like yours it has been going on for awhile.. the doctors say its just poor blood circulation but its a crock. If it was bad circulation then exercise and elevating them would help and there would be a throbbing pain associated with it. So if anyone has any answers please share them, I'm worried- I think it could definitely be a bigger problem than what the dr.s would like us to think it is. Thanks, a concerned sister

Red / Purple Feet / Telangiectasia
Hi, I think I can answer your question as I have what sounds like exactly the same thing and have just discovered (after nearly two years, and seeing a vascular surgeon, rheumatologist and dermatologist, and lots of blood tests!). It is called 'Telangiectasia' which basically means enlarged blood vessels. If your Dr has performed blood tests and found no underlying cause then it is likely that it is 'Essential Telangiectasia' If you search Essential Telangiectasia in Google you will find more information.

I have had this condition for the past two years and would be happy to talk to you about it, please feel free to write me. I hope this helps Smile

I have Telangiectasia too, for the past 7 years. Would love to touch base with others with this condition.
