*“Opacities in chest x-ray appear as white smudges on the lung areas. *Costophrenic angles are where the Diaphragm (phrenic) meet the ribs (costo-). Basically on a x-ray its seen as the dark areas between the white (chest wall ). Normal lungs appear dark on x-ray films because they're filled with air. Any material denser than air such as fluid, would appear as an opacity. Congestion in the lower chest can cause difficulty visualizing the angles because the congestion appears as a cloud.*Fibrin is connective tissue. I believe that fibrotic bands are connected to bone, possibly a ligament. The cardiothoracic ratio helps determine if the heart is enlarged. To make this calculation the thoracic cage (chest) and heart are measured by x-ray and their size compared to each other.
I hope I just didn’t make it worse. This is just the way I understand it. I had several chest x-rays and I spent a lot of time trying to locate definitions online. I hope all is well with your mother,

Take care,
Smile
