My soon to be 6 year old step daughter was
just recently diagnosed with PTSD. She
was severely abused both physically and
sexually by her moms husband, and
basically abandoned by her Mom who has
decided to stand by her husband.
We have been doing so much research on
PTSD, and it's nice to know there is a
place I can come to with questions.
We are relieved that now that we have a
diagnosis we can educate ourselves in
order to better help her, the past year
and a half has been very trying on our
family.

I just wanted to reply because I noticed
nobody had yet.
First off I am so very sorry for your step
daughter and am relieved/very happy to
hear that she has someone standing up for
her (you) because right now she needs so
much. In looking back at the age of 6 I
honestly don't remember much (I have large
history gaps due to the PTSD) but I myself
was diagnosed at the age of 24.
All I can say is it's wonderful you want
to educate yourself and I do hope you find
support so that you can best help her grow
into a mentally stable adult. And I only
say that because I had 10 years of sexual
abuse (6 to 16) and I had nobody. I didn't
even know if the vile flashbacks I had
were real until I was diagnosed and opened
up. But growing up I didn't have anybody a
lot of my issues stem from that.
If you have any questions or well anything
please ask I will do all I can to provide
what I can.
