I have suffered two episodes of psychosis...a year apart. Both brought on by apparently smoking pot. I was prescribed mega doses of halidol with each episode which totally dibilitated me. I slept 18 hours a day and only got up to eat...a lot. Also was very shaky and slow and could not function at all. The first time I wentoff the meds I bounced back pretty quickly..got a good job and did well. Then I had a relapse because I went back to smoking pot. I was in a psyche ward for three weeks where I was kept heavily medicated. Got out and continued on the heavy meds and then went off them a about 2 months ago. I am still shaky and very slow and think I am also depressed..I am getting fired from my job because they are complaing about this. I have been court ordered to go back on the meds but a much lower dosage...like 5mg as opposed to the 50mg I was taking. I am just scared I will never be the same....any suggestions? please....

Firstly Stop smoking pot! Speaking from experience that's the only way you're going to get better. Don't do it again and you will recover. I had the same thing happen to me. I had to give up the drugs I was taking. I was heavy pot smoker at the time. i only ever did it every now and then after I got better but each time I did do it I always felt a substle psychosis coming back. So then i nipped in the bud and gave up completely.
Now life is normal again. i have a child 6 yrs later and things are okay.
I'm sorry you're losing your job. just try and recover for now and you'll find work again. Maybe see if you can some valiums or sleeping tablets to help with the anxiety. You know I got off risperadone a couple of months after my psychosis. I didn't like what they were doing to me and my gp totally was against them too (the menatl health clinic prescribed them to me) and so my gp then just prescribed me valiums like I said and temazapams but that was when I could already tell the difference between illusions and reality if that makes sense.

Why were you having such symptoms on pot I wonder? Other people don't seem to have them. Other people take a barrel of drugs and have no problems. Why?
