I just finished my first pack of 21 active birth control pills. I took one inactive pill yesterday, but decided to suppress my period and started a new pack today by taking one active pill at my regularly scheduled time. Am I still protected against pregnancy even though I started this new pack a day late? How many days should I wait to have unprotected sex?

Hello,

Welcome to ehealthforum and thanks for writing us

Inactive pills do not contain any hormones so even if you started the new pack of active pills a day late you would be protected against pregnancy. But you might exhibit spotting during this time period as you have just started the pills.(less than 3 months duration)
Active pills should be taken regularly at the same time without missing any so that effective protection can be provided against pregnancy.Continue them regularly.
take care!
