I have prostatitis, so says my doc. I sent in a semen sample and it came back with the enterococcus faecalis infection so I am on amoxycillin. Thing is i have had a course of Ofloxacin, Amoxycillin (low dose) and another antibiotic.
My current Amoxycillin is 3 tablets per day, 500mg each tablet, so 1500 per day for one month, 4 weeks. I am now onto week two and still have the pain dispite the medication. I have prostate pain in the front, pain in groin and down my legs although it isnt as bad as it was its still there nagging away.
He physically checked my prostate and it wasnt enlarged.

Is this normal for Prostatitis?

Thanks Simon

hello 2glio,
i know your post is quite few months old, hopefully you are still hooked into this site,
i hope the 1 month Amoxycillin course worked well for you, as i have also been diagnosed with the same infection, unfortunatelly for me i got the enterococcus in 2 places of my body, in the prostate and the colon and it was sexually transmitted to me by my ex g/f,
anyway, my doctor put me on a 2 weeks course of Amo (3 a day) but it didn't work and recently he repeated the same course, another 2 weeks and with the same antibiotic, but I'm not optimistic as i lost hope for a cure due to the fact that i have been carrying the infection for almost 3 years,
is there any alternative medicine to fight the Entero successfully?
after browsing in few medical websites about that particular infection, most of them says that the enterococcus in a hard infection to get rid with conventional medicine as it develop resistance to most antibacterial
take care and i hope you are doing fine,

Amoxycillin is a penicíllin antibiotic so it does not penetrate the prostate gland!

I don't know why "doctors" still prescribe this to patients with prostatitis, it only shows How they know nothing about this disease!

BTW enterococcus is resistance to most antibiotics and most of them don't penetrate the prostate.
I'm with this nasty bacteria in my prostate gland for nearly 2 years, I'm right now wating for surgery, I'll remove this organ for once! I'm only 28 years old, this disease is like living in hell!
I've being taken different courses of antibiotics for more than 1 year and a half! There's no cure in some cases, only removing this organ!

Hi sw_londres. Hello everyone, I'm CURED!!!

Well I was about to go to surgery but I got better!
My doctor prescribe me nitrofurantoin (it does not penetrate the prostate gland but also does not kill any bacteria in our intestinal/colon, which I truly believe was the main issue of this disease). My doctor told me that once you balance your gut flora our immunology system start to fight against the infection and it happened.
It took more than 3 months to clean the infection, he insisted that I should do this first instead of going on a surgery and I’m glad I did it!

When I was using strong antibiotics like: cipro, bactrim, levaquin, amoxicillin, etc - sometimes I was taking more than one at a time - I was only getting worse! I tried to treat this infection with systemic antibiotics for almost two years with no results! So, if I were you, I'll talk to your doctor about using nitrofurantoin only. Don't forget to restore your gut flora with some probiotic yogurt, I took actimel everyday with breakfast (remember that if you take it with a systemic antibiotic it’ll do nothing because the antibiotic will kill the good bacteria that you are taking). In my case it healed very slowly (18 weeks, after 6 weeks he lower the dose), but I’m glad I didn’t have to go to surgery.

Hello Livinginhell,
thanks for your positive reply,
wow!! I'm so happy for you indeed,
It still can't sink into my mind that someone has beaten the enterococcus, i have been battling it for almost 4 years without any success so far,
I will definitely suggest your idea to my GP next week and see what she will think about it,
by the way, could you please keep in touch and update me with any new development,
and i hope you are cured for good,
thanks again for sharing your experience

Let me just say that if you guys have ANY bacteria in your prostate gland you MUST see an INFECTOLOGIST!!!

Urologists are not the best choice because infection is not their main area!

Ask for a semen culture with MIC and go to see an Infectologist if it grows any bacteria or fungus.

Bacterial Prostatitis is a complicated infection to deal with, only infectologists know which antibiotics penetrate the prostate gland well and the right selection depends on what bacteria you have in there!
I had to took Imipenem for 5 weeks now, all other antibiotics have failed miserable! Don'give up because infectologists nowadays have an arsenal of new antibiotics to fight against this infection!

That's my Two cents!
