Typically, the initial evaluation of an enlarged prostate includes a PSA blood test, a digital rectal examination and, in most cases, a rectal ultrasound. If any of these tests are suspicious for prostate cancer, then an ultrasound-guided transrectal needle biopsy can be performed.
