Q: Probiotics for yeast infection.

I was told by my gyno to purchase probiotics. I went to my local vitamin shop and bought them in tablet form. Someone told me that "good probiotics" are the refrigerated type. I bought mine right off the shelf and they were not in the refrigerated section. I paid about 8 dollars for them and I take about 3 a day. Did I buy the right ones? Can someone please give me some insight? Confused

I have never tried probiotics, so I don't really know. But when did you start them? Do they seem to be working?

Hi
I take Primal Defense( from the Tree of Life) They are in capsule form and I take them everyday. You can buy them from health Food store, or online. They are quaranteed fresh and I can honestly say make a world of difference. I have been taking them for about 5 years now. I can not tell you when I've had a clod/flu, sore throat, or ahd to take anyhting for regularity. Not sure about hte yeast infection part, as I had one ONCE when I was 19 from taking antibiotics.....I won't ever do that again...If you ever take antibiotics, replace the good bacteria with probiotics! I believe in probiotics. although a lot of people do not.......

Probiotics.
Well I started the probiotics 2 weeks ago. I am currently working with my new gyno to try to get rid of this vaginal yeast infection I have. I have not noticed a difference with the probiotics yet. I am so afraid that this yeast infection has done damage to my body. I like my new gynecologist. She understands what I'm going through and she actually listens to what I have to say. So I'm trying to stay strong and confident.

Most probiotics need to be refrigerated because they are frozen live bacteria that are part of the normal flora in our GI tracts and in women in the vaginal canal. Keeping them cold helps to stabilize them and not lose potency. Mega Dophilous is a powdered probiotic you can get. There are many out there. I prefer Jarrow Formulas. This company is very reputable and has conducted many studies on vitamins and supplements. If you go to their web site you can call and talk to a nutritionist about any products or questions.

Hi
I think from what I have read that eating yogart daily, sometimes twcie a day can help to balance out the ph. Not sure about yeast infections, as I have only had it occur the one time. I know I am extremly lucky/blessed. What about acidophilus supplements or lactobacillis supplements? I do know the probiotics that i take have boochooos of good "stuff" in them. And I do keep it in hte refrig. as antigone said. ALthough its not written on the bottle someone from here once told me, (back in 2003) to keep it refrigerated. I've been coming to eHealth a long time! Theres bound to be some other good advice from friends here who have actaully gone through what you are experiencing. Good luck to you and hope you are better really soon! Hugs!

I can't remember if I reported something or not.....

but your email should've explained it. You can pm me with what the email said if you want me to explain it, or pm "admin" about what was wrong and they can tell you.
