Swelled lymph nodes can be due to an inflammation or a tumor.

Inflammation of a lymph node (lymphadenitis) can be provoked by an infection (bacterial or viral) or another inflammatory process like an autoimmune disorder or an allergy. Infected acne can cause swelling of the regional lymph nodes.

A tumor of a lymph node can be primary or secondary.
Primary tumors of the lymph nodes are the lymphomas. Secondary tumors are the metastasis from cancers on other locations in the body.

If your swollen lymph nodes last more than a month you may want to consult an internist for a second opinion.
