Q: Prescriptions needed for epipens
asked by: DoctorQuestion on July 25th, 2008
I have always been allergic to bee stings, and have controlled it by avoidance, with the last time being stung 13 yrs ago. But now i am starting to work in remote settings and feel to ensure safety, that an epipen is the best measure i can take to ensure my safety.
Do i need to see a doctor and get a prescription to collect an epipen from a pharmacy, or can i just buy one from a pharmacy without a prescription?
Also are there different brands, or just one generic brand?

In Europe and the USA “EpiPens” can be bought from a pharmacy only with a doctor’s prescription. Probably in Canada you don’t need a prescription. Other brand names for epinephrine (adrenaline) are “Twinject” and “Tubex”.
