Hi Girls!
This is probably kind of a dumb question, but I just had a miscarriage, and we'd like to ttc again soon (like within the next month or two) I was taking prenatals for about a month before we first tried to conceive, and all through the 11 weeks of my pregnancy. My question is, should I just continue to take them as we are planning to try again so soon? I figure it can't hurt, right?
Thanks, lovelies!! Very Happy

I would just start taking them as usual. I have been taking them for about 8 months now. They are a good multi vitamin to take on a daily basis anyways. my sister in law takes them daily even though my niece is almost a year old. They are good for your nails. It cant hurt. They have a lot of good vitamins in them

ive been taking them for about 5 mths now. My doc said they wont hurt anything but just give your body what its needs for the baby you are ttc and what you need. I would keep taking them, it wont hurt anything.

I'm not taking pre-natals. Multivitamins make sick to my stomach so that's why I don't take them. I been taking only folic acid supplement which I think is the only thing you really need extra if you eat right. People who eat right don't need to take pre-natals.

hi lagringa, I'm from PR. Love the town of Mayaguez that's where I went to college to el Colegio.

You can get prenatals anywhere. Pharmacies, supermarkets, vitamin specialty shops, Wall-mart.....

Nightangel,

You need to be careful offering medical advice about prenatals. If you chose not to take them thats fine. All people who eat right do not need to take them. It is up to your doctor as to what suplaments you take while pregnant.

Bottom line is you should check with your doctor before you self diagnose what you should take before during and after being pregnant just to be on the safe side.

I took prenatal vitamins occasionally during my first and second pregnancies. They always made me sick. I wasn't about to make myself sick, especially when I had kids to take care of, on top of already being sick, so for the other pregnancies I stopped taking them. I was ok for a long time and all my babies were perfect. I did find that if I took a whole foods vitamin (the Alive capsules or tablets) they didn't make me sick in the slightest.

I only took the Alive tablets in my last pregnancy because I didn't know about them before that, but I was also really lazy about taking them too.

So guess what happened? My whole life I've had perfect teeth and gums. From one pregnancy to the next my teeth became more and more sensitive even though I was going to the dentist. I gave up on dental and my teeth felt a little better for it for a while. But after I had this baby I had to see a dentist finally because my teeth started to hurt so badly........ and I had 12 cavities. My dentist told me it was because I've been giving my body out to babies in pregnancies and breastfeeding for 8 years straight. My diet wasn't perfect, but it wasn't entirely junk food either.

I know I've had 6 kids very close together (in less than 8 years) and breastfed all of them, but if I could do something differently, I'd take that Alive the whole time for all the pregnancies. I know that I'm rather an extreme case, because no one here is probably going to have 6 kids like I did. You still may not see the effects of not taking a vitamin now, and your babies will come out fine...because if you don't eat right, the baby just taps into your stores...you will see a long term effect somewhere down the line.

As with anything, you should get things okay-ed with your doctor...and if you are having any sort of problems or concerns, it's never a bad thing to talk about it Smile

Well I checked with the doctor and he told me that I was doing it right. Just stick with the folic acid if the prenatals make me sick. He even commended me about researching about the subject and knowing what to do Very Happy
