Q: Premature ejaculation and prostate infections
asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 13th, 2008
I have had a normal sex life for 23 years, then two years ago, all at once, I developed premature ejaculation so badly that I ejaculate before entry. For the last two years, without exception this has been the case every time I have sex.

It has been suggested to me that a prostate infection can be the cause. If that were the case, would a prostate infection clear itself up, or just go on indefinitely? Also am I likely to notice my prostate being hard and swollen if it were infected?

Thanks.

Current medical status: Sudden onset, severe premature ejaculation.

Prostate infection can cause erectile dysfunction but I'm not sure about premature ejaculation. Premature ejaculation is considered to be a functional disorder without any organic disorder including prostate infection. Anyway, if you have a prostate infection you should be treating it. You can request a urine and sperm biochemical and microbiological examination to confirm an infection and to isolate the infective agent so that a proper antibiotic can be prescribed. A prostate infection won't go away by itself. Without treatment a prostate infection can become chronic.

You may want to consult a urologist about this.
