Q: pregnant with Factor V Leiden Disorder

Hi, my GF is pregnant and has the Factor V Leiden disorder. She is entering her second trimester. Of course with this condition the pregnancy is high risk.

She recently went to see specialist again, they gave her another echo cardiogram and the fetus heart beat is once again low; worst than a few months prior.

The beats are around 70 bps. I am afraid.

For some reason she cannot take steroids or hormones regularly. She negatively reacts to penicillin, I think is why. Later today her family doctor will see if she can take steroids. If anyone can lend advice to this matter, it will be appreciative. Thank you.

I am confused why would she need hormones and steroids? Has she been having bleedind during the pregnancy? I was diagnosed with factor v and I had bleeding during the entire pregnancy up until 21 weeks then I miscarriaged. They have since discovered that I have factor v and will be put on heprin and baby asprin.

I started the blood thinner Lovenox in my 9th week. They are once daily shots you give yourself. They do not hurt and I have personally not had any bruising, two common complaints I saw online. My doctor sees many patients that are Factor V and I have been told repeatedly that it is not a big deal, that the pregnancy is NOT high risk if I take the daily blood thinner. She also stated that my delivery will be no different than any other person. In the 34th week, they will switch me from Lovenox to Heparin, but no other precautions. Your girlfriend should do her research and find a doctor that is well versed in this disorder. It is very common and one of the least serious disorders you can have when pregnant!

Sncollins,

How were you diagnosed for Factor V and what is your history?

I have had two miscarriages both with lots of bleeding from behind the placenta. How is your pregnancy going with treatment. I am longing for someone who can tell me from experience what it is like going through a pregnancy after miscarriage with FVL being as I am terrified to get pregnant again.. Thanks, Colleen
