Q: Pregnant with condom use ?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 8th, 2009
Hi,

Me and my girlfriend have been having sexual intercourse on a regular basis over the last couple of months.

She had dizzy spells and fainted on several occassion last month, as a result she went to see her doc. The initial assessment was whether she was pregnantm and blood tests showed that she wasnt. Days after she had her period.

This month, she is now 8 days late after her expected period time.

Our protection has been as follows. I have been using a condom during sex, but only putting the condom on prior to me ejaculating, thus not using one before hand. The condom has never split before.

My concern is whether she is pregnant. I am aware that there are other possible causes of late periods: stress, diet, exercise. My other concern is whether she is pregnant due to pre-ejaculation? Hope you can help me. Thanks.

Hello and welcome to eHealth Forum!

If your girlfriend has been feeling sick for so long, the periods can be delayed. Precum usually does not contain sperms and cannot result in pregnancy. However condom is method of safe sex that prevents STDs. The method you use is not 100% safe in preventing pregnancy as accidents can occur. For 100% contraceptive protection it would be good if your partner can go on pills. This time it may be due to your partner not keeping well and stress. However a confirmed diagnosis can be given only by a pregnancy test.

Your partner needs to consult a gynecologist and a PCP regarding her condition. Since a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on net please discuss these possibilities with your doctor once. Hope this helps. Take care!
