Pregnancy with scarred uterus ?

When I was younger I had an D&C and in the process the doctor accidently left some of the placenta in me causing a horrible infection, a few days later and I almost died. I was rushed to the ER and put right into the OR. The doctor that operated on me told me that my uterus is 14% scarred and in the case of a uterus that means it is practically impossible for me to get pregnant(since the uterus is so small). It has been 5 years since then and my husband knows about my past situation and that we may not have our own kids and was fine with it but now our friends are having kids and he really wants a child. Can I have kids or not? Would fertility treatments work? Or am I so scarred that the egg wont grip onto my wall causing the sperm to not find the egg since it wont be there and can my uterus heal on its own since it sheds its liner every month. Would a hysteroscopy be a good idea and help at all?

Thanks for joining me on ehealthforum.

The uterine scarring is common with D&C procedures, and leads to problems in conception.
Going ahead with a hysteroscopy would be better to visualize the extent of the scar tissue at present.
IVF and or IUI can be tried after seeing the hysteroscopy results.
The scar tissue if very deep into the wall of the uterus can also cause problems with co-ordination of the uterine contractions during labor and delivery, requiring C-section for both yours and baby's safety.
Discuss the options and work-up with an INFERTILITY SPECIALIST, and go ahead with the work-up first to determine the extent of damage present. Depending upon your results, the best possible way for conception and related complication (about what to expect and be ready for in future) would be explained to you.
