Q: Pregnancy instigated cycle irregularity
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 3rd, 2008
Why is my cycle being so weird? I don't think I could be pregnant since I've had normal flow periods for the cycles since I last had sex. Please give me any advice you have. I currently have no insurance and I just started a new job which I think offers some. But I want to know if this sounds serious or if I should just wait it out and see if things go back to normal. Thank you.

Menstruation Answer A5044
Current medical status: Very light, short period then more light bleeding two weeks later. Been sexual inactive since early June and had normal periods since until this one though cycles have been getting further apart (30 days, 36 days, 38 days).
Current medical treatment: Been taking naproxen sodium for migranes which occur sometime around my period and usually last 3-5 days. But can easily be triggered by stress.

It is hard to say what causes your cycle irregularity but pregnancy is a very unlikely possibility. Pregnancy can cause a missing period but not irregularity. Cycle prolongation (without other symptoms) could be due to a hormonal misbalance in the axis hypothalamus-pituitary-ovaries.

You could consult a gynecologist about your problem.
