I am 21 wks pg with my 4th child. For almost 2 months I have had varying amounts of mucus in my stool, usually clear and mostly noticable upon wiping. I was tested for infections and parasites all negative. Stools vary in color and diameter, sometimes I go 3-4x a day, sometimes only once. I often feel I need to go and only pass mucus when I do. I have alternating diarrhea and constipation along with normal stool consistancy. 2 or 3x I have noticed small staining of blood on the tissue, this was during times of rectal pain/burning, like maybe I had a fissure or tear. I was checked for hemorrhoids and tears and was told I had neither (the exam was done with the dr's pinky finger). I have also done 2 at home FOBT and both showed negative for blood. I am very gassy and occasionally bloated and I have abdominal pains that my OB said are not being caused by the baby. After 2 months of worry I was finally able to get appt with a GI. I really want to have a colonscopy but am not sure if he will do one since I am pregnant. There is no history of cc in my family but my mom had 3 benign polyps removed at age 49. Her repeat colonscopy earlier this year showed no new polyps. I've been told I could have IBS, and also that I just have pregnancy discomforts. I've gained 15 pounds already and am not anemic and my wbc count was normal. Does anyone have any input? I've changed my diet rather drastically over the last two months and have seen little improvement (if it's IBS).

Your symptoms are very suggestive for IBS.
Changed frequency and form of stools, alternating between constipation and diarrhea, bloated and feeling of gas in intestines, abdominal pain, mucus in stool are all symptoms of IBS.

Do you usually strain, feel an urgent need to have a bowel movement, or feel that you haven't completely passed a stool?
Have you noticed that abdominal pain and cramping go away after having a bowel movement?
Are you experiencing frequent headache and backache?
Do you have urinary problems?
Can you relate the appearance of these symptoms with some stressful period?
