Q: Pregnancy and the possibility of an anovulatory cycle
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 30th, 2009
I am three days late and still have not had a positive pregnancy test and have not started my period. I have regular 30 day cyles. My last period was Sept. 27th. We tried to conceive Oct. 7-14th. I am having mild cramping that is different from my normal period cramps. I t feels like my uterus is being stretched two different directions. I also have periods when I feel like I could eat a horse and was moody last night with my husband. Is there any chance that I could still be pregnant? And when should I retest if there is a chance?

You would like to know whether you are pregnant and when you should take a pregnancy test again.

Spermatozoa live in the female reproductive system 3-4 days within which they can fertilize the ovum. Usually the ovum is conceived after 3-4 days after the intercourse.

According to the data that you described it seems possible that you may be pregnant. You may take the pregnancy test no less than ten days to two weeks after the intercourse. If your test is negative once again, you might have had an anovulatory cycle. You may consider seeing your gynecologist and make an ultrasound exam to check both whether you are pregnant or had an anovulatory cycle.
