Q: Pregnancy and the anovulatory cycle
asked by: DoctorQuestion on April 30th, 2009
Was on antibiotics for 10days right after my last period, had unprotected sex 3days before my expected period. My period was due around 21/22 of this month but there is still no sign of them 9 days later. Had terrible lower abdominal cramps for 5mins 3days ago which left me feeling tender for 3 days.I feel a slight tinge at the odd time on my lower abdomen. I have been frequenting the toilet lately but have no pain passing urine. Could I be pregnant or had an anovulation due to antibiotics?

Based on the data you provided it can not be determined whether you are pregnant or you experienced anovulatory cycle. Your menstrual cycle length is irregular which complicates determining the day when you ovulate. It is possible that, If that day was the same as when you had your intercourse, you might be pregnant.

Otherwise, an anovulatory cycle is a more likely reason for your condition.
You might want to visit your gynecologist to check for pregnancy and have various laboratory tests to check for any hormonal imbalance that might have caused the anovulatory cycle.
