Q: Pregnancy and partial hysterectomies
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 21st, 2008
I had a partial hysterectomy approximately 1 year ago. I have no periods and as far as i know still only have one tube left. Anyway i had a yeast infection a couple of weeks ago and it went away with medication i still am having very light discharge it does not smell and its not any different color than white so idecided to take a pregnancy test, and it was positive. My question is, is it possible to still have this baby or will it more than likely have to be removed?

In a partial hysterectomy the biggest part of the uterus is removed, leaving the cervix and the ovaries intact. So, if you are pregnant there are several options. Either the test is wrong, or if a pregnancy occurred then it is an ectopic pregnancy. You should visit a gynecologist to determine which of the possibilities happened. It doesn't seem likely that you can have the baby, because the biggest part of the uterus is removed.
