I have been unemployed or self-employed for the last 5 years and haven't been able to afford health insurance. I've recently developed some health issues and am looking into my options for private health insurance plans.
I currently live in Maryland for financial reasons but intend to move back to New York (my home state) as soon as I can save up enough money. I don't know how long that will take, but I estimate it'll be sometime within the next 6-9 months. Ideally, I'd like to just wait and get insurance once I'm back in NY, but unfortunately I'm sick now and I'm not sure I can wait that long. The problem is I think I may have a chronic condition (endometriosis), so I'm literally avoiding getting treatment so I don't get diagnosed.
So my question is, if I sign up for a private health insurance plan in Maryland and get diagnosed with endometriosis, then I move to NY and have to switch plans, will that mean I'll likely be unable to get coverage?
As far as i know, it is possible to get the pre-existing Health Insurance even if you move to another state.
But as the state laws on the insurance differs, i recommend you to contact few insurance agents in NY, who could help you to choose the better plan for your pre-existing conditions and also with better coverage benefits compared to the planning you are opting to take for in Maryland.
I am sharing this information as it could be very helpful if your moving to another state. You can get the contact details of the trusted insurance agents by state or by city through online from many sites.
