My Dad had a transplant in August. His function is great. He has developed diabetes from the meds however. My real concern is this stone-like feeling and pain at the site of the transplant. The doctors originally thought it was a hernia which is somewhat common I hear, but they ruled that out. He's waiting to talk to a specialist, but I'm just wondering if anyone has heard of such a pain post kidney transplant before? He also mentioned he feels some relief after a bowel movement, and lying down is more comfortable than sitting or standing.

Thank you

Post Transplant Recovery
Hi there,
Just had a kidney transplant, Day 21 today, can anyone out there tell me how long did it take before you are up and about doing regular things such as exercising and going to the gym?

I started exercising and leading an active life, two months post transplant. But the key thing to do is, get active step by step till you manage to get your strength back. Simple walking at 100 steps a minute should do for a start. Keep busy at home but do not strain yourself or lift weights. However, if you keep strictly to taking your meds at the right time, follow a healthy diet, you should be back to a normal life after 6 months. A year down the line you feel like you have never had a transplant except for pain at the site if your bowels are not clear or if you have gas built up. Life is great if you keep a positive attitude. But, weight lifting, dumb bells,or strenuous exercises are not advisable.I had a transplant 14 months ago.
