Post Pill Period....i Waited Eight Months Posted: 04-09-06 10:30am
I understand the anxiety...I'm 27 yrs old.
I was on yasmin for about 24 months and
when I stopped taking it I would sometimes
have cramping, or clear discharge, but for
8 months... No period. I did not start
my period until I was 17 and that was with
the assistance of hormones. So I figured
it would be a while after I stopped the
pill. But 8 months? Forgeddaboutit!
Started taking black cohosh 540 mg capsule
1x per day and about 2 1/2 weeks
later...Bam! Yay! The cohosh herbs are a
progesterone susbstitute and promote
ovulation. I got my bottle at supertarget
for about 6 bucks! I have read that an
herbal tea with cohosh herbs can be taken
on the 5 calendar days before you are
supposed to start, and you will start on
time. (from hygeia: a woman's herbal by
jeannine parvati baker) good luck,
beautifu; woman!

I been off the yasmin pill since november
of last year. Since then, I only had 2
periods (february and march). Nobody else
I know went through this with the pill.

Same Problem Posted: 05-17-06 13:34pm
Hey ladies,
i have to say, I thought I was totally
alone on this too. Seeing a few of you
get your period or pregnant after a while
of being off the pill gives me a glimpse
of hope. I am getting remarried in
october. I have been through alot of
stress over the past year. I just went
off the pill in december, but before that
I was on the pill for probably 3 years and
then went off in june and went back on in
september. Then I decided to go back off
again in december for good. Well, in feb
I still had not gotten a period I took
provera and that induced a period, and now
I still havent gotten another one on my
own. I have signs and symptoms of my
period coming back but not actual flow.
I am appreciative I found this discussion
posting, I hope that me and my husband to
be can be as lucky as some of you have
been.

Have You Had Your Thyroid Checked? Posted: 06-02-06 15:34pm
I haven't had a period since going off the
pill in february. I mentioned this to my
doctor and she is testing me for
hyperthyroidism - graves disease. I
expect to get the test results today. You
might want to look into that if you
haven't gotten a period in awhile. I'm
hoping that's not what is wrong with
me...I had my obgyn take more blood today
to run some other tests, too.

It's good to read that you're not alone in
all this. My situation is a little
diffrent. I am 21 years old and have been
on the pill since I was 17. In march, I
suddenly didn't get my period anymore. 2
months later I still didn't get one. In
may I decided to stop with the pill for a
while to see if I maybe would get my
period then. But nothing. I am
definitely not pregnant. I went to the
doctor and he said it was post pil a.,
even though I told him I didn't have my
period for 4 months, and had only been off
the pill for 1 month.
Is there anyone who has experiencec a
similar situation?

Yasmin Posted: 06-13-06 13:42pm
Reading all of the previous posts i'm
starting to get a little antsy. I just
got off yasmin 60 days ago. I skipped my
first period directly afterward, and
yesterday my period was supposed to have
come and it too is a no-show. I was
originally put on the pill 2 years ago at
age 19 to help me have more regular
periods but I figured why take them if I
don't necessarily need them.
I've experienced period symptoms (a little
bit of discharge, breast tenderness) with
each no-show.
I see that 2 other girls here experienced
this after getting off yasmin. Are there
any more?

Another Post-yasmin Amenorrhea Posted: 08-02-06 14:35pm
I was a little relieved to know maybe what
might be going on with me but seeing the
references to yasmin has definitely gotten
me worried. I was on yasmin for a few
years, ortho tri-cyclen before that. I
went of a month ago and can just tell
something is not right with my hormones.
I've had a little cramping, nausea, etc.
But no period and plenty of negative
pregnancy tests. We have such a small
window to conceive...I think I may have
really blew it by not going off the pill
sooner.
Very worried....

Am Glad to Read This Thread.. Posted: 08-17-06 03:04am
Hello. I've been on the patch for more
than two years but since it was
discontinued last march, I was prescribed
the nuva ring but I didnt like the
invasiveness, so my doctor switched me to
the pill..After 1 month (may) of pills, I
discontinued after my period arrived.. (
I was always late in taking them)then my
period arrived early last june and late
last july(4th)...Up to now(6th week up to
my last menstruation), my period hasnt
arrived, although I have all the
premenstrual symptoms...
I felt so stupid because I was so regular
since I got my period...
I am 40 years old and I dont want another
pregnancy...Then I read this forum, and I
am so glad I am not alone!!
So tomorrow- ill get a pregnancy test(my
husband had never been this scared! We were
married for 2 years before we had our
first baby, you see);go to my ob-gyne, buy
tea and folic acid...I'll keep in touch.
Thanks for the enlightenment, girls.

Hello. Ive been reading through these
posts and its really good to know that im
not the only one experiencing this
problem. It really is scary, and I hope
that all of us can get through it. It
hasnt been too long for me, only about 3-4
months since I stopped but I am very
worried. I wasnt sure exactly how it
happened for everyone else, but I had my
period the week that I stopped taking my
pills, it was almost instant, but since
than its been nonexsitent. Was it like
that for everyone else?
Thank you soo much for your time, and
thanks for the support in advance. I know
with wishful thinking we can get through
this.

I was on yasmin for about 4.5 years. I
went off in feb so that we could get
pregnant. I got my period immediately
after finishing my pack, but I haven't had
one since.
i am glad to know that I am not the only
one.
I have never in my life wanted my period
back so bad! I want to get pregnant! Lol

Post-pillamenorrhea Posted: 10-15-06 23:54pm
Hi ladies - I am relieved to know that
many other s are experiencing the agony of
ttc with having just come off of some sort
of bc. I was on the pill for 12 years,
and just came off of it 4 1/2 mths ago.
Have had 2 periods since, but no luck with
conceiving. Not sure if I am experiencing
post-pill a, but sounds like I may be?!
My husband and I are very excited to
become pregnant, but this is more
difficult than I had imagined!
Has anyone taken any herbal supplements
that have helped them start ovualting
again? I am reluctant to start with all
the med's that doctor's want to give out
these days. I have had my hormone levels
checked and all seem to be ok.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.
Good luck to all of you out there!

How I Got My Period Back! Posted: 11-11-06 18:53pm
Hi everyone,
i have been following this forum as I had
the same problem as most of you. I
stopped the pill 5 months ago as my
husband and I decided to try for a baby
(i'm 27). I got my usual withdrawal bleed
at first but then... Nothing. Sooo
frustrating! Especially as other friends
have announced their pregnancies in the
meantime, and having to be pleased for
them was driving me mad! I had been on
the pill for 9 years in total, but had
stopped it for a year four years ago and
at that time my period came back straight
away. I always had a regular cycle before
going on the pill. So, here's what I did,
and finally I got my period last week.
Obviously I don't know if my period would
have come back without this, but you never
know!
1. I (unintentionally) gained a little
weight. I was definitely not underweight
before, just in the middle of the healthy
zone on the bmi chart, but through a
combination of skiving off the gym and
being a bit more greedy than usual
(comfort eating?) I put on about 4-5lb.
2. I went to the gp and got my gonadal
hormone levels checked. By this stage
paranoia had set in and I had decided that
I must have gone through a premature
menopause (yes, very paranoid!). When my
hormone levels came back totally normal
this was most reassuring! I also figured
that this meant my gp knew about the
post-pill amenorrhea if it carried on for
longer.
3. I started vitex agnus castus tablets,
after reading online that they can act
like herbal clomid! I got them from
napiers herbalists and started taking one
a day. I had been taking them for about
six weeks when I got my period.
I should mention too that I had been
taking sanatogen pronatal tablets with
folic acid since I stopped the pill, and
i'm sure you're all taking something
similar already!
So that's my strategy. Cross your fingers
for me that we'll manage to get pregnant
in the next few months, and i'll cross
mine for you girls! Will let you know how
we get on.
Xxx

I've just noticed that loads of the
capital letters in that post have been
weirdly removed when I submitted it.
That's annoying! Promise I wrote it
properly the first time!

Still Awaiting For My Aunt Flow Posted: 11-21-06 01:50am
Hello ladies,
i'm 23 years old and when on the pill
since I was 18. Been on and off the pill
since then. I finally decided to get off
the pill forever because of some
emotional/ mood swing issues. Well I got
off the pill in september and as of now,
have not had my period. I'm reading all
of these stories of us ladies not getting
periods until years later or just 1 or 2
periods in a year. What can I do? Don't
want to sound like a freak but I really
miss my regular periods!!!
If anyone is in the same boat or was and
now is menstruating regularly please let
me know how long did it take and what was
the solution?
Thanks!

a Positive Story! Posted: 11-22-06 10:42am
Hi ladies,
i have been following this forum for the
past 6 months. I began using the pill
when I was 17 years old (i am 24 now) and
just stopped this past may. I had 1
period in which I was 2 weeks late after
the discontinue. I had nothing again for
4 months. I went to the gyn to discuss
my problem and the Dr. Issued me a dose
of provera to take for 10 days in which my
period came 2 days later. My husband and
I were worried about the issues I was
having and I had convinced myself that I
was going to have problems once we really
were to start trying for children. Well
I was holding out for my period last month
and again, another 2 weeks late and
nothing. I thought the provera had not
"kick started" (as my doctor says) my
periods back again. I decided to take a
hpt just incase since this is what I had
been doing the last 6 months. Low and
behold, the test showed up positive!! 4
times! I've taken a blood test which
confirmed it as well.
I just wanted to give a positive out look
for some of you out there since there
aren't really any success stories on here.
Good luck ladies!

Post Pill Amenorrhea - Positive Feedback Posted: 11-26-06 18:19pm
I've also been following this post for the
last several months and wanted to post my
positive feedback. I went off the
pill (orthocept/apri) in may 2006 after
being on it for 12 years straight - no
breaks. I had no signs of starting my
period at all. I finally had my first
period on my own on november 18 (6 months
after stopping the pill). Here's
what I believe helped me:
1) maintain healthy diet/do not lose
weight: I altered my diet and started
exercising right around the time I stopped
my pill which I think contributed to the
delay of starting my period. I
ended up losing about 10 pounds after
stopping the pill either due to the
diet/exercise, stopping the pill, or both.
After not getting my period, I
stopped watching my calorie intake and
gained 5 pounds back on purpose to help
bring on my period.
2) try drinking red raspberry leaf tea:
this is an herbal tea which you can get
from any natural food store. I
drank 2-3 cups a day for about a week and
it brought on brown discharge. I
stopped drinking it as soon as I got the
brown discharge but I believe if I
would've kept drinking it, it may have
eventually brought on my period.
3) have your doctor prescribe
progesterone: I finally went to my
gynecologist who prescribed progesterone
for 10 days to "jump start" my period.
After finishing the last pill, I
finally started a period 4 days later on
october 17, 2006 (about 5 months after
stopping the pill). That period was
unusual for me - it was mostly brown (no
bright red blood), I had no cramping and
no breast tenderness. But then
about a month later, I started my own
period, on time and without any help from
tea or pills. Hopefully I will
continue having normal periods now!
4) take a prenatal vitamin daily: not
sure if this helped but it is something
else i've been doing since I stopped the
pill.
Hope this helps. Good luck everyone!
