Hello Everyone

Hello,
i dont know if I am in the right section but I need some advice or help.
I am epileptic, I have never been on the pill and I have been put on new medications, and now my period has been going weird and now I have missed my period. I am not sexually active with men so I know that I cant be pregnant. But I am scared. I was put on folic acid by my neurologist to help prevent anemia. I was just wondering girl to girl if you could give me any advice or should this be a big deal for me to worry about.

I'm 27 and stopped using the pill 2.5 years ago. I've only had one period that was induced with progesterne. Has anything changed with you all?

Hi ladies...I too am having the same problem. I stopped the pill in july (the same time a friend of mine did). She is now already 3 months pregnant and I still haven't had any periods. My doctor did an ultrasound and extensive bloodwork. She said everything so far looks normal, but she's waiting for one last test (fsh and lh levels). She suspects these levels are low, possibly due to stress (although I haven't really been under a lot of stress lately). Her next step is to induce a period with progesterne, but it sounds like that will give me one period like you girls and then that's it.

I'm so upset because my husband and I are nearing 30 and really wanted our first baby by now. I don't know what else to do. Anyone have any success or have any ideas I can try?

I know what yall mean. I was on the pill for 4 years. My husband and I decided we wanted to have a baby so I stopped taking it in september. I had one period that was induced by provera and i'm happy to say that I finally got my period today! I started drinking red raspberry leaf tea and taking 400 mcg of folic acid since this past monday. I'm not sure if that helped or not but I got my period.

It is very important to have a period (whether induced or not) at least every 3 months. I have pcos which throws off my periods and I have learned that provera is a nightmare, so I use my birth control pills to induce my period. You take 1 pill everyday for 5 days and your period starts. Not having a period at least 4 times a years puts you are a 75% better chance of developing uterine cancer. As for why your period won't come on its own, I would definately go to your doc and request a hormone workup. It can take up to a year before you get your period straightened out after taking the pill.

Hi there,
iv been reading the msgs here and they seem 2 fit in with what im experiencing. I however came off the pill 5 years ago! My periods have never been right since. I went about 2 yrs with no period at all, 2 yrs having 2 or 3 periods, then this year I was having 1 every 2 months. Then since august nothing!! I am definitely not pregnant and the doctor has said my hormone levels are pretty non-existent! He wants 2 refer me 2 a gynacologist but I wondered whether any1 here could give me any words of encouragement?! Im 27 and I no me and my partner would like 2 have children in a yr or 2 yrs time and im so scared my periods just wont come back properly! Ppl have suggested hormone injections and I wondered if any1 had experienced this and if it worked? I am underweight which I also have seen could be a contributing factor 2 this, any1 got any ideas on that?? I was heavier when I came off the pill however and as I said my periods were very rare then too. Help!! I would really appreciate any help as im petrified ill never be able 2 conceive.

I'm Experiencing It Too
Posted: 02-02-06 10:18am

I'm happy to know that I am not alone in this situation because my doctor really made feel alone. I was referred to another doctor because after being off the pill since dec 04 I have not had a period either. I would get the tender breasts and maybe a cramp but that would be it. I had an ultrasound done tuesday and i'm to call back this morning for my results. I have had problems with my cycle since I was 11 and have been on birth control pills since age 15 in order to regulate them.
My problem began when I got off the pill, I gained over 70lbs. I tried exercising and dieting and nothing worked. I was at 150lbs and shot up to 217lbs literally overnight. I woke up one morning and it was like none of my clothes fit. I was hysterical. And now i'm finding out that this is the reason. I noticed more hair in places i'd never seen and my voice had gotten deeper. Did anyone else notice any changes. I was very discouraged and couldnt figure out why my body was changing so rapidly at age 29. I do not have any children yet so I pray my results from the ultrasound and bloodwork will come back ok.
Thanks for listening.

Traditional Chinese Medicine
Posted: 02-20-06 08:23am

Hi

i came off the pill in aug 05, and haven't had a period since. I have had ultrasounds, blood-tests, pregnancy tests, and they all show up nothing.
Last week I decided to see a traditional chinese medicine doctor.
She said that the problem was that being on the pill for 8 years, had made my body not develop its own estrogen properly as all those artificial hormones had been messing it up.
She said that I don't make enough estrogen now for my eggs to develop and be released. They are all too immature.
I have been taking chinese herbs for one week, but no period yet. But I figure it takes about 2 weeks from the day the egg is released until menstruation, so fingers crossed.

To the person who posted a message before me - it sounds like you have poly cystic ovary syndrom (pcos).

Will let you know how the chinese herbs go.

Hi there,
well, I finally got the results back from my ultrasound and it is confirmed that I do have psos. He informed me that I have multiple cysts on my ovaries but they are small in diameter. He has prescribed me back on a different type of birth control pill. I just started on them on yesterday. On top of that, I have acid reflux and ibs. As far as my ovaries are concerned, he informed me also that I would need to talk to to an obgyn about taking fertalilty drugs. That was very hard to swallow especially since my insurance won't cover it. Part of me feels like a little old lady having to take all this medication but if it's all gonna heal me then oh well.
Thank you hilla about mentioning the chinese herbs. Do you know exactly what kind they are? Can you buy them over the counter? My doctor is of oriental decent so maybe I can ask him when I go back on the 15th.

Hi heartygirl

i don't think it is a good idea to buy chinese herbs over the counter. The person I see is a qualifed doctor (of western medicine), as well as qualified as a chinese medicine doctor.
There are many different herbs to take, and they totally depend on the individual. They also need to be prepared properly. It is more like medicine than herbs. I think it is a good idea to see a professional and have a proper consultation.
They are also good, because there are few, if any, side effects.

Good luck

Missed Periods
Posted: 02-22-06 15:11pm

Hi ladies,

im 22 years old and I got off the pill approximately 5 weeks ago and there is no sign of my period. I am getting a little worried reading about postpill amenorreah. Also has anyone lost weight after getting off the pill because while on the pill it was so difficult for me to lose weight, I was just always blated and uncomfortable. I also strongly believe that the companies selling these pills should inform women about these issues because it seems to me that no one was really informed about these critical issues. I personally am furious with the companies because I really trully believe that their marketing strategies are not moral. The pill should prevent pregnacy, and it shouldnt take away our dignity as females. Not being able to get your period just because you get off the pill isnt right and women should be told about it before choosing the pill as a contraceptive method. I wish all you ladies luck, please keep me informed. I appreciate your feedback and opinions because it will teach me more about my own body.

hi heartygirl

yeah, the pms was pretty full on (my poor boyfriend...). I had been feeling really emotional and moody for a few days and was wondering if it was pms (but didn't want to get my hopes up).
But I feel so good, that finally, I am fertile again.

I Have Experienced This
Posted: 02-28-06 19:03pm

After stopping the pill after two years, I got my period about five days after stopping. I was told by my doctor that everything would immediately go back to normal, so I expected my period to start again after 30 days. When it didn't come, I kind of freaked out, even though I had only had sex twice since stopping the pill (with a condom!) and took two pregnancy tests. Both turned out to be negative.

Thankfully, I came across this forum, and just waited a little longer. My period started about three weeks after I expected. I had always been regular, so was freaked out when it wasn't on time, especially since my doctor said it would be.

Just wanted to let people know that it can take a little longer to start up again! :)

Weird-but-happy Story
Posted: 03-09-06 08:34am

Hi guys,

i have been looking in on this thread for the last few months and wanted to share my weird-but-happy story.

I went off the pill almost six months ago and didn't get my next period. After six or eight weeks (i don't remember precisely) I took a pregnancy test, which was negative. Then about a month later I got a really light period, then nothing.

I knew about post-pill a., so I thought that was what was going on with me. I was trying to be very calm about it, so I figured I would wait until the 6 month point to see a doctor and would only take more pregnancy tests if I felt symptoms.

Well, a couple of days ago, I was getting ready to make a doctor's appointment to see what was up. I took a test first, just because I thought that would be the first thing they'd ask -- and lo and behold i'm pregnant. Very pregnant. The midwife thinks i'm *16* weeks along! But I had a period during that time and had *no* symptoms that I noticed.

The midwife says I probably missed my first period, but ovulated in the next cycle. I didn't realize that sometimes you can be pregnant and still have a period. I also didn't realize you could sail through the first trimester and not notice it. I feel very silly. But also very grateful.

I hope that story will be helpful to someone. Take care, everybody.
